Originally from the Bay Area in California, I have been working as a Lighting Designer for the last thirteen years in theatre, opera, dance, film, electronic media, and many other artistic disciples. My strength lies in designing for movement and shape, finding the balance between sculpting a scene while driving the momentum of the work. Through the project development process, I strive to discover the creative intent of my collaborators and articulate the narrative through my design.
Some design highlights include: Sudden Rise with the Moved by the Motion ensemble, Earle Brown’s Calder Piece at Friends Seminary (New York), workshopping a new opera Black Square which later premiered at the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and Cabaret at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I particularly enjoy collaborating on new works, and have helped devised many pieces that span the gamut of design.
I hold an MFA in Lighting Design and Technology from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a BFA in Technology and Design from California State University - East Bay in addition to being ETCP certified as an Entertainment Electrician.
